In September, at EUROSOIL 2025, held in Seville, Spain, the Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry (LAMMC) represented the GYPREG project. EUROSOIL is the flagship event of the European Confederation of Soil Science Societies, bringing together soil scientists, policymakers, practitioners, and industry stakeholders from across Europe and beyond.  The conference brought together more than 2,500 participants from 45 countries for discussions on soil health, nutrient management, sustainable land use, and policy development.

Scientific Findings on Gypsum Attracted Strong Interest

GYPREG’s work received prominent visibility through two poster presentations showcasing the project’s latest practical outcomes. The first poster “Impact of gypsum on soil aggregation, phosphorus dynamics, and barley performance in soils of differing pH and texture” examined how gypsum affects soil structure, phosphorus dynamics, and crop (barley) performance across different soil pH conditions. The second poster addressed the combined use of lime and gypsum effects soil chemistry and crop yield (spring barley), demonstrating how these amendments can optimize nutrient management in acidic soils. Both poster presentations generated extensive interest, sparking discussions on nutrient retention, soil structure improvement, and sustainable crop production.

Expanding Collaboration Opportunities

Beyond the scientific sessions, GYPREG representatives actively participated in workshops, networking events, and informal exchanges. These discussions opened pathways for new collaborations with European projects focused on soil health, water protection, and nutrient management.
The event underscored the importance of bridging research and practical implementation, highlighting how scientific findings can translate into effective agricultural and environmental strategies. Insights gained from the EUROSOIL 2025 will support the next stages of GYPREG’s field trials and policy recommendations, reinforcing the project’s contribution to reducing phosphorus losses and promoting sustainable innovative agricultural practices.  The event positioned the Project as a key contributor to European efforts to improve soil health and reduce eutrophication across the Baltic Sea region.
