Technical details

As part of Finland’s National Waste Week, entrepreneurship students from Savonia University of Applied Sciences created a series of inspiring media pieces for the FoodLoops project, aiming to raise awareness about food waste and promote sustainable practices.

The team produced three short videos, each addressing food waste from a different perspective:

  • Video 1: Highlights that 600 million kilos of edible food are wasted annually in Finland. The video draws attention to the connection between food waste and climate emissions, while encouraging practical actions such as mindful shopping and making use of discounted products.

  • Video 2: Demonstrates how leftovers and “best before” products can be transformed into delicious and nutritious meals, reinforcing messages about food safety, affordability, and creativity in cooking.

  • Video 3: Features KalPa ice hockey players sharing their own tips on reducing food waste, linking sports, community engagement, and sustainability in an accessible and relatable way.

In addition to the videos, the project produced a podcast titled “What can schools actually do to help reduce food waste?”. The discussion explored practical measures that schools can take to minimize food waste, reduce costs, and promote sustainability within their communities.

Together, these initiatives demonstrate how education, creativity, and collaboration can inspire small but meaningful changes — contributing to a more sustainable and responsible food system.
