Reusable dishes in cafes in the Anykščiai district municipality

The Change(K)now! project partner Anykščiai district municipality tested a a system for using reusable dishes in 16 restaurants and cafes.
By joining this project, Anykščiai became the first city in all of Lithuania to undertake such a large-scale implementation of circular economy principles in the catering sector.

Aim:

To reduce the amount of single-use plastic waste and to show how local actions can contribute to achieving global environmental goals.

Results:

The pilot demonstrated that municipalities can initiate reuse systems even without national legislation requiring reusable packaging. The initiative reduced dependance on single-use packaging while strengthening cooperation between businesses and the municipality.
