First Technical Workshop was held regional in all partner countries, where participants were also outside of the project. The aim of the Technical Workshops was to unify and refine a short list of the materials that covers primary, substitute and secondary raw materials and chemicals used in the Engineered Wood Products [EWP] sector or Electronic sector.
To ensure the work started smoothly and progressed effectively, preliminary material lists had been prepared in advance for both project’s target sectors. Working during the workshops were made in Miro boards, which were also pre-prepared with three different raw material categories: Primary, Substitute and Secondary.
Here, the primary materials used in EWP were virgin materials directly sourced from natural resources or primary industrial processes (e.g., wood chips), along with commonly used chemicals such as adhesives. In the Electronic sector primary materials were e.g. metals, plastic and battery chemicals. Substitute materials in EWP were alternative materials replacing conventional primary raw materials, often for sustainability, cost, or performance reasons (e.g. agricultural residues like straw) and Substitute Chemicals like bio-based adhesives. In the Electronic sector Substitute materials were e.g. bio-based plastics and Ceramic or Polymer Capacitors. Secondary materials in EWP were reclaimed or recycled materials sourced from post-consumer or post-industrial waste like recycled wood waste. And in the Electronic sector Secondary materials were e.g. recycled metals.
Participants were divided into smaller groups, and they worked among the Miro board. First task was to review and update the given preliminary material lists. After this, groups Assessed the materials from the preliminary list and were discussing about the availability, costs, safety and sustainability of the materials. Last phase was discussion and wrap-up with all participants.
The workshop results were collected, analysed and made a summary. These results will be used in the development of the Digital Twin Demo Platform’s (DTDP) Module 1 that focuses on Circular Product Desing.
Technical workshop was conducted across six countries:
Finland: 5.6.2025, virtual event
Sweden: 17.6.2025
Estonia: 5.6.2025, virtual event
Latvia: 12.6.2025, on-site (Riga, RTU)
Poland: 4.7.2025, virtual event
Germany: 10.10.2025, virtual event
The CIRC-2-ZERO project aims to accelerate the reduction of carbon footprints and support high-tech production capabilities in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Baltic Sea region.
