Organic food transition to support Bioregion development in Vidzeme region, Latvia

07 July 2025
Technical details

Transition arena in Vidzeme region was started by organising a Bioregion Forum where 200 individuals signed a Memorandum with a goal to develop the Gauja National Park into a Bioregion. The transition arena workshops focused on organic food promotion. The arena workshops brought together local stakeholders to visualize an ideal organic food system, define action plans and develop five initiatives to be delivered by the established Bioregion Initiative Group.

One of the developed initiatives was a “School Restaurant Week in Cēsis” – an event to promote organic food in schools. As part of the “School Restaurant Week,” an organic recipe competition featuring organic products was held in schools across the Cēsis Municipality. Winner teams had a chance to visit the Chefs’ House restaurant in the Bioregion and meet professional chef Ēriks Dreibants, who prepares dishes using organic ingredients. The outcomes of the transition arena were incorporated into both the Bioregion Action Plan and the Vidzeme Sustainable Food Strategy 2035.
