Webinar Recap: Exploring Hydrogen as a Marine Fuel
29 April 2025
A cross-sector audience on board
With around 55 registered participants, the webinar drew a diverse group of attendees—from regional authorities and municipalities to shipping companies, energy providers, and research institutions. Key organisations represented included Region Jönköping, Gotlandsbolaget, Nodrion Energy, the Swedish Transport Administration, Liquid Wind, Chalmers University of Technology, and the Swedish Energy Agency.
This wide-ranging participation underlines the growing interest and collaborative momentum behind hydrogen-powered shipping and green port development.
Insights from Swedish research partners
Experts from IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, including Elin Malmgren, Julia Hansson, Linda Styhre, and Karl Jivén, shared insights into the potential of hydrogen as a marine fuel. The session focused on the Swedish case within Blue Supply Chains, offering an overview of findings that link port development and maritime transport to zero-emission pathways.
The BSC project’s involvement in this event strengthens its visibility and fosters dialogue across borders—engaging not only Swedish stakeholders but also participants from Denmark, Norway, and Finnish regions with Swedish-speaking populations.
Continuing the conversation
This edition of Hydrogen Friday was part of a recurring series exploring hydrogen applications in sectors such as heavy vehicles, infrastructure, and industrial by-products. The language of the webinar was Swedish, in line with the HOME project’s goal of fostering local and regional collaboration in the Nordics.
The recorded presentation and related materials are available on the HOME project website (in Swedish).
