Nordic Hydrogen Bus Roadshow at BSR HyAirport partner airports
06 June 2025
On 7 May, Växjö Småland Airport hosted proudly the final of the Nordic Hydrogen Bus Tour – part of the European JIVE and JIVE 2 projects. The tour highlights the role of hydrogen in the fossil-free mobility of the future and strengthens the airport’s work for sustainable development. The fuel cell bus, which has toured through sixteen Cities, made stops in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Ljungby and Växjö before continuing on to Finland. The participation of Växjö Smaland Airport took place in collaboration with, among others, Hydrogen Sweden, Toyota and PS Energi.
“To be able to host the final is an honor and completely in line with our ambition to drive the development of sustainable transport,” said Morgan Tuvgren Fors, Quality and Environment Manager at Växjö Småland Airport.
Following the motto “Hydrogen is not the future – it is here and now”, during the “Vätgasdaten”, lectures, inspiration and networking opportunities were offered around hydrogen projects in Sweden and Europe.
One week later, a historical event took place at Helsinki Airport. First ever, a 100 % hydrogen powered vehicle in operation at apron in Finland. The bus carried passengers between the terminal building and aircraft parked on remote apron positions.
The test of hydrogen-powered airport equipment is one of the piloting activities in the framework of the BSR HyAirport project. Learnings of these early tests will be shared within the project partnership and with interested stakeholders from other airports.
