First FoodLoops Replication Workshop – A Collaborative Success!
15 April 2025
The first Replication Workshop of the FoodLoops project, held on March 21, was a great success!
Project partners — CSCP, Savonia University of Applied Sciences, the Lithuanian Consumer Institute, and Gdańsk Municipality — came together to share insights and experiences from their work on closing bio-waste loops in schools across Poland, Finland, and Lithuania.
During the workshop, CSCP presented the FoodLoops Manual, titled “Cooperation for Circular Bio-Waste in Schools and Beyond”. The manual is designed to help key actors collaborate and co-create impactful solutions. It also highlights how its guidance can be adapted to various regional and local contexts, taking into account the unique conditions of different school food systems.

The workshop also featured interactive discussions on the main challenges and opportunities for local initiatives tackling food waste prevention in schools.
Some of the key questions raised included:
-
Should we involve parents more closely?
-
Can the cafeteria menu or space be drivers of change?
-
Do we need more data to act effectively?
-
Which stakeholders are essential to engage?
-
Should the focus be on reducing food waste — or on using organic waste more effectively through composting or energy recovery?
Participants from Germany, Poland, Finland, and Lithuania took part in the workshop. The discussions took place in smaller, country-based groups, and concluded with a joint session where everyone shared their perspectives and ideas.
The next Replication Workshop will be hybrid, taking place both online and in-person in Wuppertal, where CSCP is based. We’ll be diving deeper into the project ideas developed during this first session — and we’re very excited about what’s ahead!
