Package-free sandwiches in Tallinn´s hospitals​​

In collaboration with the East-Tallinn Central Hospital and the West-Tallinn Central Hospital​, the Change(K)now! project partners Baltic Restaurants Estonia AS and the Tallinn Strategic Management Office tested the replacement of separate single-use plastic sandwich boxes with large reusable sandwich containers (for transport from catering kitchen to hospital serving kitchen). Moreover, the sandwiches were served to patients on reusable ceramic plates​.

What was tested and evaluated:

• Package-free sandwiches in 2 hospitals​​ (East-Tallinn Central Hospital & West-Tallinn Central Hospital​), with a catering for a total of nearly 900 patients every day​.

When:

• February 2025

Aim:

To test the feasibility of sending package-free sandwiches (from preparation to distribution) in reusable GN-containers; and to serve them on reusable plates.

Outcome:

It was a successful test and the hospitals will continue.
