Finnish-Danish Collaboration Releases Digital Tools for Navigating the AI Act, Data Act, and EHDS Regulation
13 November 2024
A joint initiative by Finnish and Danish organizations has produced a suite of digital tools to help European innovators and companies better understand and comply with the EU’s new digital regulations, including the AI Act, Data Act, and the European Health Data Space (EHDS) regulation. Spearheaded by The Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra and delivered by Lean Entries through its regtech platform Entries, these resources will be accessible to all Finnish industrial and Danish health tech sectors by the end of 2024.
The tools are intended to demystify the complexities of new EU regulations, empowering businesses of all sizes—from startups to established corporations—with insights necessary for compliance.
Europe’s new digital regulatory landscape aims to ensure safe, ethical, and innovative practices within data and AI fields, yet the intricate web of legislative acts can be challenging to navigate. For startups and small enterprises, regulatory compliance is often a top concern, taking time and resources away from core innovations. “We cannot waste time with compliance,” said Ville Peltola, Head of Data and AI at Technology Industries of Finland. “This joint action brings corporate-level compliance capabilities to SMEs, enabling faster market responses.”
The Finnish-Danish collaboration also aims to monitor the impact of these e-tools, gathering evidence through user surveys to refine and expand these resources in the future. Signe Ulrik Holm of the Danish Life Science Cluster emphasized, “These tools support health tech innovators in understanding regulatory pathways, helping them approach regulations with a critical, strategic eye.”
The project is bolstered by Finnish AI Region (FAIR) and HealthHub Finland, two European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) that work with a broad network of universities and cities to bridge research and market readiness. By connecting expertise with real-world applications, the EDIHs are providing a foundation for sustainable, compliance-ready digital solutions across Europe.
Laura Halenius of Sitra summed up the importance of the project: “Regtech is essential for a regulated digital economy. At Sitra, we are committed to collaborations that address the intersection of innovation, regulation, and compliance, shaping the future of Europe’s data economy.”
As companies prepare for 2025, the Finnish-Danish e-tool suite offers a forward-thinking approach to regulatory compliance, helping innovators focus on creating impactful solutions without becoming mired in complex regulatory details.
