11 October 2024
We’ve just returned from the highly anticipated European Week of Regions and Cities, where we proudly introduced the latest developments of the international initiative PPI4cities, led by the Lithuanian Innovation Centre!
The European Week of Regions and Cities (#EURegionsWeek) is the largest annual event in Brussels dedicated to advancing EU cohesion policy. This prestigious four-day conference featured nearly 200 sessions and drew an impressive audience of around 5,000 registered participants. Attendees included officials from European, national, regional, and local governments, key stakeholders like project leads and partners, international initiative practitioners, academics, researchers, and press members.
During the session titled “Urban Futures in the Making: Unleashing the Power of Public Procurement of Innovation,” Povilas Bacevičius, an expert from #LIC, shared invaluable insights. He emphasized the growing importance of Public Procurement of Innovation (PPI) and how the newly developed PPI4cities platform, created in collaboration with partners from the Baltic Sea Region, is designed to accelerate innovation within public procurement processes significantly.
The #PPI4cities platform, developed in partnership with institutions such as the Baltic Institute of Finland, the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Economics of the Republic of Latvia, Panevėžys NOW, BME Region Mecklenburg Western Pomerania, and the NorthDenmark EU-Office, is poised to become a vital tool for cities aiming to foster innovation through public procurement.
Supported by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme, this initiative is a significant step towards smarter, more sustainable and innovative urban development. The platform aims to enhance collaboration, share best practices, and enable regions and cities across Europe to use procurement as a driver for innovation, contributing to future-ready urban planning and regional growth.
