Navigating sustainability and cyber security: insights from the Telia MeetUp

05 June 2024
Technical details

On May 30, the Telia MeetUp took place at the Telia office in Estonia, where the focus was on cyber security, IT efficiency and new standards of sustainability and challenges for companies.

The event covered important topics affecting both local and international companies. The purpose of the sustainability reporting panel was to simplify the understanding of what sustainability reporting means for companies and to discuss the possible unavoidable obligations.

In Estonia, sustainability reporting is becoming mandatory for large companies and will affect all businesses operating in Estonia through value chains. Comprehensive impact measurement is crucial to be part of the value chains of large Nordic companies. However, many companies are unprepared for this new obligation. The initial step is for companies to evaluate their impacts on society and the environment, and understand how these issues, in turn, affect the company.

For the first time, all companies in Europe are preparing such extensive sustainability reports, and they need guidance. Tools like ESG Tool can help assess the necessary data for these reports.

Understanding your impacts must go beyond just writing a report; sustainability should be an integral part of the company’s strategy. In the long run, this benefits the company, society, and nature.

Although sustainability reporting may seem difficult at first, it is important to remember that we are all starting this journey for the first time. It is a learning process where each step and experience brings us closer to better solutions and greater positive impact.

The MeetUp provided participants with deeper insights and practical tips on implementing sustainability reporting in their companies, contributing to a better and more sustainable future.

The panel featured:

  • Merili Vares, Head of PwC Estonia’s ESG Field
  • Adele Johanson, Data Management Expert at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications
  • Kristiina Maasik, Head of Telia Estonia’s Legal Unit and Sustainability Department

The panel was moderated by Mari Salmu, Senior Sustainability Consultant and Circular Economy Expert at Miltton.
