Blue Supply Chains was happy to be present during the Connecting Europe Days in Brussels

The event was organised together with the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU and  participants’ backgrounds span from Ministers, politicians, financial institutions, industry, transport, to stakeholders from the European Commission and their connected agencies. It is ‘the’ annual place to discuss concrete measures and exchange good practices developed and piloted in European projects.

The Scandria Alliance kindly offered Blue Supply Chains project the opportunity to exhibit at its stand in “The Square”, Brussels.

During the event, the launch of the nine new ‘European Transport Corridors’ of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T), which also extend to neighbouring third countries has taken place.

Further, the resilience of the European transport network to the changing climate, by highlighting the devastating impacts of climate change on infrastructure was a topic during the four-day event with more than 3,000 participants. Special attention was also given to the rising number of ‘green corridors’. Their requirements, and the ‘customers desire to have more and more sustainable transport and products’, ensures that technologies, alternative fuels, and other greening of transport technologies are further developed and used by the market. With the limitation of space in ports and also the question of financing infrastructure, it was also talked about the consideration of utilising fixed or floating strategic infrastructure in ports.

Blue Supply Chains follows different approaches supporting decarbonisation in ports:

• Evaluation and piloting of measures for the further electrification of handling equipment,
• Strategies for providing, handling and storing alternative fuel,
• promotion of more environmentally friendly transport chains in the hinterland, with a focus on the development of combined transport.

By that, the project supports reduction of emissions in transport and counteracting climate change. The event provided an excellent possibility to exchange with experts on latest developments, trends and potential future uptake of measures to reach zero-emission ports.

The future of funding and financing opportunities for transport infrastructure projects was highlighted during the event too.
