Some impressions from the BOOT 2024

There are many unique features of the Baltic Sea that makes it an interesting example of sustainable boating destination, not only considering environmental aspects. In the whole region leisure boating is affordable and accessible to wide parts of the population. Thanks to many clubs and associations, it is not an exclusive pass-time, reserved only for boat owners. There are plenty of organizations helping handicapped, or youngsters to start or enjoy their sailing adventure. Such initiatives and other ideas contributing to the Region’s sustainability need to be promoted and strengthened, with new improvement introduced in marinas, boats and boaters’ behaviours to meet the emerging needs and various challenges.

These were only some of topics presented and discussed by the BaltSusBoating2030 project’s representatives during the BOOT 2024 fairs in Düsseldorf on 22-23 January 2023.

During stage presentations, round table discussions and at the BSB2030 stand itself, it was well visible that the Baltic Sea attracts much interest as a boating destination. They were focused not only on showing its beauty but also on practical aspects for those eager to set sails and travel around the whole region. At the heart of the discussions was the roundtable “How to make boating in the Baltic Sea even more attractive & sustainable?” held at the “Destination Seaside” stage.

With an aid of diverse promotion materials, including the newly and specially prepared leaflet, the Project’s staff was involved in approximately 1500 conversations at the BSB2030 stand with all the people that wanted to get more information about leisure boating in the Baltic Sea. It was the second time, that the BaltSusBoating was present at BOOT fair, unifying the Baltic sub-destinations and cooperating associations under one brand and it was well noted that there is a growing interest in the Baltic Sea, especially from the boaters coming from other, not neighbouring regions and countries. The visitors seemed particularly interested in the BSB2030-developed concept of season’s nomads, encouraging the boaters to sail around the Baltic, staying with a boat in various countries.

This year the Project was even stronger involved in policy dialogues and B2B activities and we had the pleasure to host the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region PA Transport Coordinator, Mr Tarmo Ots, who found the Project’s presence at BOOT important for promoting the Region and attracting more tourists.
