ReNew Common Heating

The project ReNew Common Heating helps smaller municipalities develop affordable, decentralised heating networks for residential and semi-detached neighbourhoods powered by renewable energy to reduce emissions.
Project summary

The central aim of the project is to develop and test models for the communal heating supply of households using renewable energies. In areas with multi-storey residential buildings, a district heating network is often economical, while air heat pumps are currently gaining ground in areas with single-family homes. The focus here should therefore be on local heating networks, mainly in towns and medium-density neighbourhoods (e.g. semi-detached and terraced housing estates). In addition to project management, a second Group of Activities (GoA) will document the respective national and regional starting situations of the partners: what is the urban development structure and ownership structure, what heat supply systems exist, to what extent do they work with renewable energies, are financial subsidies available? The transnational exchange should also serve to develop recommendations for action. In a third GoA, the partners want to carry out local pilot projects based on the results of the second GoA and the recommendations. This may involve the more fundamental development of local or models of heating networks or the realisation of concrete feasibility studies that already examine technical, legal and economic aspects in a specific spatial case. A fourth GoA pursues the goal of disseminating the work approaches, the learnings worth to transfer as Good Practices. The fifth GoA is dedicated to support the reporting, to monitoring and internal evaluation.
