Saldus takes first steps towards recyling of water

17 September 2024
The WaterMan pilot measures are advancing! The drawing and video below visualise the concept for water recyling around the central town square of Saldus in Latvia. The facility has the purpose to collect & recirculate stormwater for supplying a public fountain and further utilisations in its vicinity (e.g. watering / cleaning of streets).
Technical details

The feasibility study that is elaborated within the WaterMan project explores how surface run-off can be collected in an underground reservoir below the Kalpak Square, which located in the central and prominent area of Saldus Municipality. The retained stormwater will be purified on the spot and is then recirculated for supplying a public fountain at the square as well as further utilisations in its vacinity (e.g. watering municipal greenery & cleaning streets).

The elaboration of the concept will be accompanied by educational measures for general public, explaining the need for water recycling to make the local water supply in the Baltic Sea Region and Saldus Municipality, where due to climate change the alteration of periods of droughts and floods is becoming more frequent and more extreme.
