TRUST ALUM Project Goes International!

24 April 2025
We visited Germany to share research on water quality and pollution, explore innovative analytical methods, and build future collaborations with leading experts in Karlsruhe and Hamburg.
Technical details

The Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology team took an inspiring trip to Germany to exchange ideas and expand knowledge in the field of water quality and pollution research. We presented the success of TRUST ALUM project and looked for potential collaboration partners in the future.

First stop was German Water Centre in Karlsruhe where the sustainable protection of water resources and innovative solutions for drinking water supply and waste water disposal are core elements. We explored innovative water analysis techniques and cutting-edge research on modern pollutants like PFAS and microplastics.

Next we visited University of Hamburg, where we connected with Dr. Elke Fischer and her research team. Their work focuses on pollutants in both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, with a special emphasis on variations across climatic zones and greenhouse gas implications.

We had engaging discussions about various analytical methods, their pros and cons, and left full of new ideas and collaboration opportunities. A huge thank you to our wonderful hosts in Germany for the warm welcome and for sharing their knowledge!
