Promoting ALUM Treatment to Latvian and Estonian Stakeholders!

21 January 2025
We presented TRUST ALUM project results, highlighting ALUM treatment as a solution for phosphorus pollution and engaging Baltic stakeholders in discussions on its effectiveness and implementation.
Technical details

On January 15th in Riga, at the Interreg Estonia-Latvia project’s NutriLoopWorks kickoff event, we had the opportunity to present the results of the TRUST ALUM project to nearly 30 participants from Latvia and Estonia, including universities, NGOs, and municipalities.

Inta Dimanta-Deimantoviča (LHEI) introduced an innovative method for the Baltic region – ALUM treatment, designed to tackle phosphorus pollution in historically polluted lakes. She shared promising results from the pilot in Riga’s Velnezers (2024) and highlighted strong stakeholder engagement and media interest.

The discussion sparked some questions:

  • Is ALUM treatment cost-effective?
  • How does it compare to other methods?
  • Why hasn’t it been used before?

The answers to all questions are also available in our Q&A in English, Latvian, Estonian and Lithuanian languages.

We hope this event helps expand interest in ALUM treatment across Latvia and Estonia, bringing more stakeholders on board to support cleaner lakes in the Baltic region.
