On June 20, the Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology (LHEI) took part in Sarunu festivāls LAMPA – Latvia’s largest open-air platform for dialogue and civic engagement. For two days, water was not just a topic, but a stage – literally – as LHEI hosted insightful discussions on a floating platform, inviting the public to think, question, and debate the way we manage and protect our most precious resource.

One of the festival’s highlights was the opening discussion, “Water Research and Management in Latvia: Are We Doing It (Right)?”, which brought together experts to explore the state of Latvia’s water governance. Representing the TRUST ALUM project, researcher PhD Inga Retiķe shared success stories from the project’s implementation in Lake Velnezers and emphasized the value of cross-border knowledge transfer and cooperation with partners from neighboring countries.

LAMPA’s open and vibrant atmosphere proved the perfect setting to engage a wide audience in conversations about climate change, pollution, and sustainable water use. TRUST ALUM’s presence demonstrated how research-driven solutions can not only inform policy but also inspire communities to act.

No worries if you missed the discussion. You can access the recording [in Latvian] here.
