Engaging Stakeholders in the in the Archipelago Sea

30 May 2024
In early May, an insightful morning unfolded at the Nature-Based Solutions in the Archipelago Sea stakeholder workshop, hosted by Turku UAS and Valonia. The event brought together regional actors to discuss the use of nature-based solutions in water management, address challenges, and explore opportunities for broader implementation.
Technical details

Workshop Highlights

The day kicked off with presentations that laid the groundwork for the workshops. These talks provided a practical overview of nature-based solutions, introduced the national AHTI, HELMI, and Archipelago Sea programs, and showcased real-world examples. We extend our sincere thanks to our presenters: Jenni Jäänheimo from the Ministry of the Environment, Essi Hillgren from the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of Varsinais-Suomi, and Piia Leskinen and Antti Kaseva from Turku UAS.
The discussions were rich and highlighted the importance of multifunctionality in nature-based solutions and the critical role of monitoring to validate ecosystem services.

The outcome

This collaborative effort is a step forward in enhancing the multifunctionality of nature-based solutions, from design to practical implementation.
We look forward to future opportunities to reconvene and continue the constructive dialogue on the region’s sustainable development!
