Exploring New Avenues: SAMK Visits JKMM to Discuss Collaboration in Smart Aging
27 June 2025
A while ago, SAMK’s Resource Wisdom research centre visited the renowned architectural firm JKMM at their Helsinki office. The aim was to explore collaboration opportunities, particularly within the SmartAging Project, part of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region programme.
The SmartAging initiative aims to create smarter, more inclusive environments for aging populations through co-creation, digital innovation, and cross-sector partnerships. This vision strongly resonates with SAMK’s applied research focus and JKMM’s human-centered approach to architecture and design.
During our visit, we:
- Exchanged ideas on sustainable, age-friendly architecture
- Discussed data-driven solutions and digital tools for aging well
- Explored opportunities for joint research and project development
It was inspiring to discover shared ground from designing spaces that promote lifelong wellbeing to envisioning smart environments that adapt to the needs of an aging society.
We’re excited to continue this dialogue and work toward meaningful collaboration that blends SAMK’s research expertise with JKMM’s innovative design thinking.
🎥 Watch the video to get a glimpse into our visit and the shared vision that’s driving our next steps.
Together, we’re shaping the future of aging. Stay tuned.
