Three Days of Progress: ReNutriWater Meeting in Southern Poland
03 June 2025
The gathering marked an important milestone in the ongoing development of sustainable solutions for nutrient recovery and water reuse.
The meeting began with a visually stunning cable car ride above Poland’s largest dam, offering panoramic views over Lake Solina and the lush surrounding hills. The experience served as a reminder of the natural beauty and vital importance of water resources in the region.
The agenda continued with technical site visits to two modern membrane bioreactor (MBR) wastewater treatment plants in Berezka and Wołkowyja. These facilities, constructed or upgraded by one of the project partners Schwander Polska, showcased innovative approaches to decentralized wastewater treatment and resource recovery. For many participants, the site visits offered a valuable opportunity to see new applications of concepts central to the ReNutriWater project, and to compare them with technologies implemented by some of the other project partners.
In addition to the field visits, the consortium engaged in intensive working sessions focused on the core outputs of the project. Participants collaborated on refining the WaterSafe IT tool and Handbook, finalizing business model concepts, and shaping communication strategies to support solution transfer across partner countries. Also a risk assessment exercise further contributed to shaping the project’s next steps.
The meeting also featured presentations by local stakeholders, most notably the Mayor of Solina Municipality, Mr. Adam Piątkowski, whose warm welcome and active support helped make the event both productive and memorable. His presence underscored the importance of strong local engagement in achieving sustainable water management goals. A local TV station, TV Podkarpacie, was also present at the event, and interviews with the Mayor as well as two project partners, Monika Żubrowska-Sudoł from the Warsaw University of Technology and Stanisław Malinowski from Schwander Polska, can be viewed in Polish here.
As the meeting concluded, participants left Polańczyk with renewed energy and strengthened collaboration. The beautiful setting, combined with practical insight and joint planning, created a solid foundation for the final stages of the ReNutriWater project.
