Reclaimed Water in Focus at Latvian Seminar on Wastewater and Sludge Management

04 August 2025
On June 27, 2025, the ReNutriWater project’s Latvian partners took part in the training seminar “Current Issues in Wastewater and Sludge Management”, organized by the Ministry of Climate and Energy of the Republic of Latvia.
Technical details

The seminar aimed to strengthen capacity, develop skills, and raise awareness among representatives of municipalities and wastewater management companies, including those working in decentralized systems.

ReNutriWater project partners from VNK Serviss, the University of Latvia, and Jūrmalas Ūdens presented the project’s experience and key outcomes, as the project approaches the end of its final semester and the pilot tests have been completed and analysed. Their presentations focused on the potential of reclaimed water, including its applications, legal framework, associated risks, and the necessary supporting measures—areas the Latvian partners have been studying and developing in close cooperation throughout the project’s lifespan. The seminar was held in a hybrid format and attracted over 100 participants. Attendees included representatives from the Ministry of Climate and Energy, the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, the State Environmental Service, Riga Technical University, the Latvian Association of Water Supply and Sewerage Companies, the Association “Baltic Coasts”, as well as managers, operators, and officials from various water supply and sewerage companies and municipalities.

The seminar served as an important platform for knowledge sharing and capacity building in sustainable wastewater and sludge management by reaching a wide range of important stakeholders and target groups. Active dissemination efforts by the ReNutriWater partners support the project’s broader goal: to address key water reuse challenges and accelerate the development of policies that enable sustainable implementation across European cities.
