Final Report about ReNutriWater Communication & Dissemination published
19 December 2025
During the past 3 years ReNutriWater has not only completed research into how to create fit-for-purpose reclaimed water but also engaged stakeholders and disseminated project results. All these activities have now been collected in one report, offering an analysis of the success of our communications and dissemination efforts. The report starts by covering the communications strategy, followed by a description of project Work Packages and their outcomes.
The ReNutriWater project set out to demonstrate how fit-for-purpose reclaimed water can be safely produced and applied, particularly in an agricultural context. Through a series of pilot activities and greenhouse experiments, the project identified viable strategies for producing reclaimed water that is free from pathogens and micropollutants, while retaining valuable nutrients. Although the experiments were conducted at a pilot scale, the results provide encouraging evidence for wastewater treatment plants, as the disinfection methods tested directly respond to emerging requirements in the revised EU Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive and contribute to broader efforts to address increasing water scarcity.
The materials developed as part of the project, such as the Handbook and the WaterSafe It Tool have been disseminated as important capacity enhancements to wastewater treatment plants and public authorities, when they navigate the implementation of the directive.
