We kicked it off!

A platform project, such as REAVES Resilient Ecosystems for AV&M Entrepreneurial Support, is very different from regular projects where a consortium joins efforts in pursuit of a common project idea and where a consortium is composed of a mix of experts and managers with often different responsibilities and practices. In contrast, a platform project brings together many projects, 22 to be precise in the case of REAVES, and the consortium is made up largely of persons having been the project lead in these projects. The project leader of a platform project is thus amongst peers, and while the joint idea is clear in a regular project, a platform project needs first to understand the other projects and dive into  unknown territory to understand where consolidation of what “in theory” seem close or similar types of results. Naturally, there is a reason this consortium joins forces for a platform project: they all endeavour to strengthen one of their regional creative sectors, whereby all are promoting creative economy sectors pursuing entrepreneurial ambitions such as film, music and games – in contrast to cultural heritage sectors which depend strongly on public or private sponsoring.

From 16 to 18 September 2025, the REAVES consortium of 14 partners met in Brandenburg, Germany, in a remote location to work concentratedly in small work groups and kick-off their collaboration and the consolidation of their many and varied results. This requires for example understanding what is meant by incubation or acceleration for the different  industry sectors? What type of entrepreneurial skills are being fostered? There are as many commonalities as there are differences of which one only becomes aware when exploring these in an intensive dialogue. The productiveness of the “retreat environment” aside, the other benefit of meeting in a reclusive place where no one is side-tracked by other attention-seeking sources, is the social aspect. Getting to know each other in person, sharing a meal, personal stories and jokes, or going on a walk in the beautiful surrounding before dinner, provides a strong foundation for bonding and thus for efficient future online collaboration.
