31 July 2025
At the national conference “Innovation Center of Green Municipalities: How Will Lithuania’s Municipalities Develop Innovations?”, held at the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania on 27th June 2025, Rimantas Bakas from the Lithuanian Energy Institute (LEI), a project partner in the PlanHeat project, presented several EU-funded initiatives supporting local decarbonisation efforts — including PlanHeat.
Organised by the National Network of Green Municipalities, the event gathered 22 participants, including Member of Parliament Andrius Bagdonas, representatives of the Lithuanian Ministry of Environment, the Lithuanian Energy Agency, local municipalities, and academic institutions. Discussions focused on how municipalities can take a leading role in developing and implementing green innovation, with particular emphasis on climate-neutral policies and services.
During the event Rimantas Bakas from LEI highlighted how projects such as PlanHeat contribute to the development and implementation of sustainable innovations within Lithuanian municipalities. The conference fostered dialogue between national policymakers, local governments, and international research projects to ensure coordinated progress toward sustainable development. The discussions concluded with calls for deeper integration and stronger partnerships to ensure that Lithuanian municipalities remain at the forefront of Europe’s green transition.
