Improving resilience to the spread of plant diseases via a regional Pest Common Data Space

Stronger together – PestSpace partners

10 July 2025
In a rapidly changing climate, plants face new enemies: pests and pathogens once foreign to our ecosystems. As their range expands, so does the threat to crops and food security across the Baltic Sea Region (BSR).
Technical details

To counter this threat, the PestSpace project brings together a unique alliance: universities, public agencies, seed companies, and farmers. Their goal? To build a shared, digital response system based on DNA detection, AI recognition, and cross-border cooperation.

Together, we are developing a user-friendly mobile app and a powerful data platform to identify pests through photos and environmental DNA (eDNA). This isn’t just a research effort. It’s a farmer’s field assistant, a policymaker’s warning system, and a scientist’s open lab — all rolled into one.

PestSpace is more than a technology. It’s a community of people and institutions united by one goal: faster detection, smarter action, and stronger resilience. Whether you are a farmer in Lithuania, a researcher in Finland, or an advisor in Poland — PestSpace is being built for you.

Follow our journey. Meet the people. Explore the science. Help shape the solution.
