South Savo: Finalist for the 2024 EU Organic Awards in the "Best Organic Region" Category!

Nestled in southeastern Finland, South Savo has emerged as a trailblazer for organic farming, earning its place as a finalist in the 2024 EU Organic Awards. This recognition celebrates the region’s remarkable 40-year journey, marked by great collaboration among farmers, researchers, and local authorities.

Since 1983, South Savo has blossomed into a thriving hub of organic agriculture, now home to 200 organic farmers. The region’s success story is deeply rooted in the efforts of local organizations that have promoted organic practices, not just regionally, but on the global stage as well.

 South Savo’s pristine environment serves as a testament to the power of organic farming in preserving water quality and biodiversity. Through a systematic, cooperative approach, the region has fostered positive consumer attitudes towards organic products.

 At the heart of this organic revolution is the Finnish Organic Research Institute and a robust network of organic farmers in Haukivuori, representing a leading model for sustainable agriculture.
