Winter Kingdom: A VR Fairy Tale That Brings Kids Closer to Nature

Smarter Step (Lithuania) is one of the project partners developing the VR fairy tale “Winter Kingdom”, created for Meta Quest. It invites children into a magical world built around the four elements — earth, air, water, and fire.
While finding new ways to help children stay connected with nature, our team created a beautiful virtual landscape accompanied by lullabies. This experience blends simple interactive tasks with calming breathing exercises, designed to spark curiosity while promoting mindfulness. Tested at the Ukmergė City Festival in Lithuania and the Ukrainian House in Tampere (Finland), it drew strong interest — children enjoyed exploring, completing challenges, and reported feeling calmer afterward. Many of them said they would love to experience it again.

With its mix of play and gentle wellness, Winter Kingdom is poised for wider use in schools, libraries, children’s centers, and even health institutions as a fun, mindful, and nature-connected experience for kids.
