Building the Future of Rehabilitation Together
29 August 2025
Public sector rehabilitation faces growing demands, yet many promising digital solutions remain underused due to complex development processes, strict regulations, and limited acceptance of the clients and professionals. HybReDe project addresses these challenges by exploring how AI-based Virtual Assistants (VAs) can support hybrid e-rehabilitation and make rehabilitation more accessible.
We began the project by asking a fundamental question: What does rehabilitation look like today across different countries? To answer this, a comprehensive review of rehabilitation and hybrid remote practices in Finland, Estonia, Poland, and Sweden were conducted. Using AI-driven analysis, we identified commonalities, differences, and key requirements for integrating VAs into real-world rehabilitation workflows.
The project has now built a strong foundation through interviews and partner collaboration, creating a clear picture of current practices and future needs. Since the kick-off meeting in Turku in February 2025, regular meetings have helped refine methods and share insights. The next step is to create and test virtual assistant prototypes in real-life settings. The goal is not to replace professionals but to explore how technology can support their work and improve access to rehabilitation services.
