Technical details

The meeting hosted by VisitAarhus focused on fine-tuning the CliNeDest Climate Smart Business Toolkit based on the experiences from testing the tools with companies. Partners worked on further developing the toolkit sections, sharing insights from pilot activities, and agreeing on the next steps. A key focus was improving the usability of the toolkit. Partners discussed the need for a clearer structure, more concrete examples, and better guidance for those using it. The toolkit aims to support tourism businesses and destinations in applying COâ‚‚ emissions data in business planning, emission reduction efforts, and the design of lower-impact visitor experiences.

Feedback from spring 2026 workshops with tourism companies played an important role in the discussions. While the pilot supported peer learning and exchange between companies, partners identified challenges related to limited time, data availability, and the complexity of some materials. The toolkit will therefore be simplified and supported with clearer guidance.

A dedicated workshop for the Knowledge Management Model was held together with external experts Marta Mills and Janie Neumann from GDS-Movement. The work focused on defining what destinations should measure, how progress can be tracked, and how to support decision-making in climate action. Partners also tested a draft diagnostic tool to help destinations assess their current level of climate work and identify the most relevant next steps.

The exchange between partners highlighted that, despite differences in destination size and structure, many face similar challenges in climate action. Peer learning and co-creation remain central elements of the CliNeDest approach.
