Cities across Europe are facing the challenge of turning climate commitments into concrete action. To support local authorities in this critical transition, Climate-4-CAST is partnering with the UBC Sustainable Cities Commission to present the first Climate Budget Summit – a groundbreaking event designed to bridge the gap between climate goals and municipal budgeting.
Taking place on the opening day of the UBC Sustainable Cities Commission’s Annual Meeting, this summit will bring together municipal leaders from across the Baltic Sea Region and beyond.
The Summit will explore how cities can harness climate budgeting to turn ambitious climate plans into achievable realities. Following keynote speeches from leading climate governance experts, participants will engage with real city case studies and collaborative reflections on practical implementation.
A highlight of the event will be the insights into the Climate Action Decision Support (CADS) Tool – an innovative, open-source tool currently undergoing the second piloting phase across six cities in the Baltic Sea Region. The CADS Tool helps local authorities seamlessly integrate climate actions into budgeting and governance processes, making emissions reductions measurable and manageable.
Who Should Attend: This summit is designed for municipal officials, budget managers, sustainability coordinators, and local government decision-makers from cities across the Baltic Sea Region and beyond who are ready to move beyond climate commitments to climate action.
The Climate Budget Summit represents a unique opportunity to learn from peers, discover practical tools, and take concrete steps toward embedding climate action into everyday municipal governance – all while being part of the UBC SCC’s larger programme focused on creating climate-proof and nature-positive cities.
