ClimaResponse Voices #1: Aron Larsson, Mid Sweden University
02 September 2025
Aron Larsson is a professor at the Risk and Crisis Research Centre, Mid Sweden University. In the ClimaResponse project, Mid Sweden University leads the conceptualisation of a digital platform geared towards municipalities and local authorities to facilitate their climate adaptation planning. It also runs co-creation workshops with local authorities from the Baltic Sea Region, and studies decision-making in climate adaptation strategies.
Question: What does climate resilience mean to you, Aron?
Aron: Climate resilience basically maintains and keeps together a functional society and welfare state in a changing climate, all while ensuring a sustainable transformation.
Why do you think building climate resilience is especially important right now?
It’s important because even if we are experiencing and acknowledging climate change already, we are not yet fully aware of how the consequences at the local level will impact societies.
What do you hope the ClimaResponse project will actually achieve? What concrete impact do you hope it will have?
I hope it will lead to an increased understanding of contextualised climate adaptation planning and how it manifests in concrete settings, as well as the purposeful utilisation of technology and key insights for what improves effective adaptation planning.
What is your organisation’s role in ClimaResponse?
At Mid Sweden University, we want to study the utilisation and design of information technology solutions for climate action and adaptation at the local and regional level, and contribute to knowledge sharing.
