Guide for Cities to Seamless Integration of Urban Air Mobility
01 April 2025
Urban Air Mobility (UAM) is growing quickly in cities across Europe. Both the public and private sector are exploring new ways to use drones and other aerial vehicles so cities need to take action to make sure they are involved in the growth of the new area of mobility.
A comprehensive Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Replication Plan was released, offering cities across the Baltic Sea Region and Europe a clear roadmap for integrating drone technology into their urban environments. This plan, developed through the CITYAM project, is designed to be widely applicable, providing step-by-step guidance on UAM implementation. It offers actionable tools and strategies for any city looking to adopt UAM.
“This kind of roadmap is important because it provides a comprehensive view from the perspective of replicator cities, collecting key insights and approaches in one place,” says Urban Mobility Expert Kristaps Niedols from the City of Riga.
“It outlines the steps and approaches these cities are taking now and in the future, offering a clear framework for others to follow. By leading by example, replicator cities like Riga, Tartu, and Gdańsk demonstrate practical, real-world applications of the CITYAM outputs, showcasing how they successfully implement and adapt them in their own contexts,” he continues.
The plan emphasizes key aspects such as effective stakeholder engagement, strategic urban planning, knowledge sharing, and the benefits of transnational cooperation. Specifically, it focuses on how drones can be better utilized in urban mobility and traffic to promote low-carbon transportation modes. The CITYAM UAM Replication Plan delivers concrete guidelines, empowering cities and their stakeholders to confidently proceed with UAM initiatives in their chosen areas of focus.
