Pushing the Boundaries of Circular Fertilisation: CiNURGi Featured at Borgeby Fältdagar 2025

01 July 2025
This June, the agricultural community once again gathered for Borgeby Fältdagar, Sweden’s flagship field event, set in the fertile farmlands of Bjärred.

The 2025 edition, held on 25–26 June, welcomed an impressive 20,000 participants and over 350 exhibitors, all eager to explore new tools, technologies, and strategies for resilient farming. And while the weather brought its share of gusts and intermittent rain, that did little to cool the exchange of ideas taking place across the demo fields, seminar tents, and exhibition stands.

Among the key contributions this year was the spotlight on the CiNURGi project, presented by RISE during the well-attended seminar “Cirkulära gödselmedel i praktiken – är vi redo att ta steget?”(trans. Circular nutrients in practice – are we ready to take the next step?”), held both days at midday in the Vippan seminar tent. The presentation focused on real-world implementation of circular fertiliser systems, drawing attention to the role that recycled nutrients, from agricultural by-products, organic waste, and residual streams, can play in strengthening local production systems.

The session brought forward examples of how farmers and regions around the Baltic Sea are beginning to close nutrient loops, supported by innovations in processing technologies and regulatory momentum. Discussions covered everything from quality standards and certification to practical farm-level applications. The engagement from the audience was lively, with many clearly seeing the relevance of CiNURGi’s work for their own operations.

This year’s fair was strongly focused on the ground, literally and thematically. In addition to CiNURGi’s session, visitors could join guided tours through trial plots, learn from live demonstrations on post-cover crop establishment, explore biodiversity zones, and dig deep into soil profile pits guided by experts. A mix of technical, economic, and policy seminars created space for reflection on the future of Swedish and European farming under pressure from climate change, shifting markets, and food system transformation.

While the strong Nordic summer winds tugged at tent flaps and the clouds rolled through, Borgeby maintained its unique mix of practicality and innovation. What emerged over two days was a clear signal: the agricultural sector is ready to act on circular solutions, and CiNURGi is helping lay the foundation for what that can look like in the Baltic Sea Region.

Whether you’re a farmer, researcher, advisor or policymaker, the message from Borgeby was clear—circular nutrient systems are not a distant vision, but an emerging reality.
