New CiNURGi Video Shows Circular Nutrients in Action (Finnish)

18 December 2025
A new video produced by the Finnish Biocycle and Biogas Association within the CiNURGi project is now available on YouTube, showcasing a concrete, real-life example of how nutrients can be circulated efficiently and sustainably from one farm to another in the Baltic Sea Region.
Technical details

Set in the Archipelago Sea catchment area, the film follows the journey of manure from Heikkilä pig farm to Gasum’s biogas plant in Vehmaa, with transport provided by CiNURGi project partner Kuljetus Tero Liukas. Along the way, the video highlights how advanced NIR measurement technology enables accurate, real-time analysis of nutrient content already at the loading stage—bringing a new level of data-driven management, smarter logistics, and more responsible nutrient allocation. Using the NIR devise is part of the CiNURGi projects investments collaborating with SMEs.

The video demonstrates how nutrient surpluses on farms can be managed sustainably, how technology supports nutrient transfers from surplus to deficit areas, and how transport logistics and reliable data play a key role in successful nutrient cycling. It also shows how biogas plants can process agricultural side streams into renewable energy and recycled fertilisers, supporting regional nutrient balance. These collaborative solutions can support both environmental protection and agricultural productivity.

This is a model example of the circular economy in practice—where agricultural side streams are transformed into valuable resources that benefit farmers, the environment, and the wider region.
