“International Conference on tccb, this is when in 2 years I want to be, so Szymon please do it every year ...!” CiNURGi results presented at the Int' Conference of Thermochemical Conversion & Bioeconomy
13 October 2026
The conference brought together researchers and industry experts to explore innovative ways to convert biomass and waste into valuable products, improve energy efficiency and support the transition towards a more sustainable, circular economy.
Representing the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Ksawery Kuligowski, PhD Eng., Assistant Professor and CiNURGi project partner, presented a poster entitled “Production of pelletized Recycled Nutrient Fertilizers from various waste feedstocks on-site in a mobile installation and their agronomic validation via greenhouse studies.”
The mobile installation is one of the pilot activities that CiNURGi invested in, in collaboration with the start-up RENDBEN. The pilot explores how different waste and biomass feedstocks can be processed into pelletised recycled nutrient fertilisers using a mobile installation. The feedstocks presented include biochar, biomass ash, cattle shavings, fish food waste, digested sewage sludge, silage from dairy and bakery waste, and seafood waste such as shrimp shells. The process includes drying and sanitation, mixing and pelletising. The poster describes a production capacity of approximately one tonne of product per day from 1.45 tonnes of input feedstock.
An important part of the work with the mobile installation was the greenhouse validation of the resulting fertiliser products. By assessing their agronomic performance, the research contributes to understanding how nutrients recovered from different waste streams can be returned to agricultural production. The work also presents a cooperation model for small and medium-sized wastewater treatment plants, biogas plants and waste management facilities. This approach could support the development of local nutrient-recycling solutions by combining mobile processing technology with product development and agronomic testing. Recovering nutrients from waste streams can help make better use of available resources, while research into product quality and fertiliser performance is important for supporting their safe and effective use in agriculture.
Scientific exchange was not Ksawery’s only contribution to the conference. The fun part of the conference can now be shared with everyone! Watch the musical performance on YouTube. The African/ Brasilian drumming teambuilding workshop with the band NANDAKIKE during the evening reception was unfortunately not documented.
