The first day featured an open webinar for stakeholders, showcasing the project’s progress and future plans. The webinar outlined the project’s overarching goal: supporting the Baltic Sea Regional Nutrient Recycling Strategy by promoting sustainable nutrient use, addressing nutrient imbalances, and fostering policy coherence.

Highlights of the seminar included assessing nutrient recycling potential, developing quality assurance guidelines for recycled fertilizers, and addressing economic viability and environmental safety. The concept of Evaluation and Technical Support Centers was introduced, along with updates on existing and planned pilots, field trials, and investments.

The audience also received a presentation on how the project’s integrated findings align with the Baltic Sea Action Plan and HELCOM strategies.

Following Monday’s webinar and Tuesday’s internal working sessions, participants took a field trip on Wednesday to the Ämmässuo Eco-Industrial Center. Operated by the Helsinki Region Environmental Services Authority, this facility specializes in the circular economy, focusing on waste treatment and recycling. Christoph Gareis, the operations manager, gave a presentation on the center’s activities and led a bus tour of the extensive site. Although a snowstorm limited visibility during the tour, participants were still able to gain valuable insights into the center’s innovative practices and large-scale operations.
