CiNURGi support centre activities ready to be fully deployed by industry

25 May 2026
On 20 May 2026, the support centre led by RISE was introduced to a crowd of farmers, policy makers, regional authorities, interest organisations, agricultural advisors, researchers, research associations, and more, in association with the 80th anniversary of RISE.
Technical details

The support centre function led by RISE has since last summer started collaboration with external stakeholder to support the testing of raw material separation into recycled nutrient fertilizers. These experiences have since then yielded results that were presented at the exhibition stand erected for the RISE anniversary festivities, as the support centre is now a fully formed service ready for implementation. An initiative that started as a mobile unit road-tripping Sweden last summer is now ready for collaboration with industry stakeholders.

The support centre has two machines for separating digestate or sludge, called a decanter centrifuge, a screw press and a pelletizing machine that are used to assist external stakeholders in testing what sort of fertilizers they might produce from the waste- and side streams of their operations. The CiNURGi stand featured physical examples of various biobased pellets produced within CiNURGi in the pilot pellet press as well as digestate, which had been processed, within CiNURGi, in the pilot screw press.

The interest and curiosity in recycled fertilisers among participants were high, and eye-to-eye discussions between CiNURGi members and visitors, touched on topics such as technical innovation, policy development, and how to bridge the gap between research and practice. The support centre function within CiNURGi aims at making nutrient recovery accessible to stakeholders and thus support the transition towards a circular economy in nutrients.

At the stand, the piloting equipment and the support centre was introduced by Ida Sylwan, CiNURGi coordinator (since spring 2026), and a symbolic ribbon cutting was done with the assistance of Gustav Rogstrand, head of department at RISE.
