CiNURGi showcased at the EUSBSR Annual Forum 2026 Networking Village
19 May 2026
Hosted by the Council of the Baltic Sea States, the City of Tallinn and the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the annual forum gathered policymakers, researchers, businesses and civil society actors to strengthen cross-border cooperation across the Baltic Sea Region. This year’s discussions focused on resilience, including climate adaptation, environmental protection, governance, demographic change and regional security.
Contribution to the EUSBSR Policy Areas
The Networking Village served as a space for participating projects and organisations to showcase practical solutions and collaborative approaches that supported the objectives of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR). CiNURGi was represented at the Networking Village as part of the Policy Area Bioeconomy stand, where the project presented its work on developing sustainable nutrient recycling systems and strengthening circular nutrient management across the region. CiNURGi contributes to the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region through its Policy Areas, Policy Area Bioeconomy and Policy Area Nutri.
CiNURGi is contributing to the following Actions under PA Bioeconomy:
- Strengthen the role and importance of bioeconomy for achieving increased sustainability, productivity and adaption to climate change as well as resilience, including climate resilience in ecosystems.
- Improving agricultural practices for sustainability and adaptation (e.g. to climate change) in a sustainable and resilient growing bioeconomy.
- Strengthen multiple use of resources through cross-cutting and cross-sectoral approaches to release potential and accelerate the development of a sustainable circular bioeconomy.
CiNURGi is contributing to the following Actions under PA Nutri:
- Limit nutrient emissions from diffuse sources and reduce their pressure on the Baltic ecosystem. The Action also strengthens European action to fight against climate change.
- Reduce nutrient emissions from urban areas and other point sources.
- Propose measures to strengthen and promote safe and sustainable use of nutrients in a circular economy.
Contribution to Regional Security
As mentioned above the theme of the Annual Forum was resilience and in CiNURGi we consider our solutions to contribute directly towards European bioeconomy by strengthening self-sufficiency and decreasing dependency on mineral fertilizers, which impact food security.
CiNURGi contributions to Regional Security:
- Standardization for Safety and Sustainability: CiNURGi has published draft industry standards for nutrient recycling.
- Environmental security: By minimizing nutrient runoff and eutrophication, CiNURGi supports efforts to improve the ecological balance of the Baltic Sea and protect marine ecosystems.
- Resource security: Efficient nutrient recycling reduces reliance on imported fertilizers, bolstering the region’s self-sufficiency and resilience in agricultural production.
- Economic stability: Promoting sustainable practices and creating business opportunities in nutrient recycling contribute to economic growth and stability within the region.
Visitors to the Policy Area Bioeconomy stand had the opportunity to learn more about CiNURGi’s activities, exchange ideas with project representatives and explore opportunities for future cooperation on circular nutrient management and sustainable bioeconomy development in the Baltic Sea Region.
