Technical details

The Creative Circular Cities project addresses one of the most pressing issues of our time: climate change. Culture and creativity have the potential to be powerful catalysts for developing sustainable habits and bottom-up solutions that fit into our daily lives. Still, weak support for and lacking involvement of the creative sector leaves a gap to be bridged – one which can bring great opportunities and innovative circular solutions.

The Practical Toolkit for Local Changemakers provides an accessible toolbox for cities wishing to harness the potential of creative industries for the circular economy. The publication highlights best practices by gathering results from case studies of circular initiatives across, and even outside Europe and from the project itself. With the toolbox in hand, decisionmakers in municipalities across Europe can refer to tried-and-true methods for the effective involvement and procurement of the creative sector to create a circular, user-friendly environment.

While not all swans are white, the solutions offered by the publication are both specific in their recommendations but are also designed to be as broadly applicable as possible. The toolkit encompasses seven general areas for the creative circular economy, so called key levers, which implementers can draw on in their projects: Getting a bold vision; Engaging your stakeholders; Raising awareness and building expertise; Making use of the local legislation and regulation; Managing your assets in a sustainable and creative way; Public procurement, and finally, Economic incentives.

The toolkit is to be a resource for any city, community, or organization looking to integrate creative industries into their circular economy journey and ultimately design more sustainable and liveable cities.
