10 September 2025
Technical details

On 5 November Latvia’s first Circular Economy Forum will take place in Riga, organised by the Riga City Municipality agency “Riga Energy Agency” (REA) and the leading environmental services management group in Latvia “CleanR Grupa”.

The forum will bring together entrepreneurs, representatives of the public and non-governmental sectors, scientists, and creative industry leaders to discuss the practical implementation of circular economy principles in Latvia.

Purpose of the forum

The aim of the forum is to promote knowledge exchange and partnership building, providing the broadest possible insight into the application of circular economy solutions across various sectors. The event will focus both on the “big picture” — the development directions of the circular economy in Europe — and on concrete examples and practical solutions.

Key message from the organisers

Jānis Ikaunieks, Director of the Riga Energy Agency, emphasized:
“The Riga Energy Agency has prepared Riga’s Circular Economy Action Plan for 2026–2030, envisioning Riga as a modern driver of the circular economy that supports the development of new technologies, infrastructure, and processes aimed at resource recirculation. Our goal is for Riga to become an inspiration for the rest of Latvia and to foster resource productivity. This is the first time we are organizing such a forum, to inspire and demonstrate how circular economy principles can be applied in diverse areas.”

Forum program

The forum program will include plenary sessions, discussions, thematic workshops, business case studies, and an exhibition of circular creative works.

The event is organised as part of the Creative Circular Cities project, which is co-funded by the EU’s Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme 2021 – 2027 to promote circular transition at local level by involving the culture & creative sectors and industries.
