Technical details

During September–October 2025, the Environmental Center for Administration and Technology (ECAT), in collaboration with Lithuanian partners Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) and Kaunas City Municipality, organised six BALTIPLAST training events across Lithuania. The events took place in Kaunas, Utena, Panevėžys, Alytus, Ukmergė and Kaišiadorys, bringing together representatives of local authorities, waste management operators and companies.

The main goal of the training events was to introduce participants to BALTIPLAST plastic reduction solutions and encourage them to apply these solutions in their own organisations. Each event began with an overview of the project and a presentation of strategic-level solutions, highlighting how different municipalities involved in BALTIPLAST approached plastic reduction and what challenges they faced during the pilots.

As the audience also included businesses and waste management companies, the programme covered a wider range of topics. Participants learned how plastic use was reduced in companies, what technical solutions were tested during the project, and how these solutions can be adapted to different organisational contexts. Participants were also invited to explore and test the plastic inventory tool, which many saw as a practical instrument they could use in their workplaces.

The training events were highly interactive. Participants actively asked questions, showed strong interest in the topic, and were keen to learn more about the real-life challenges encountered during the pilots and how these were overcome. This active engagement demonstrated a clear demand for practical, experience-based knowledge on plastic reduction.

Each event concluded with a short quiz, which helped reinforce key messages and knowledge gained during the training. The quiz proved to be a success, with participants enthusiastically taking part and reflecting on what they had learned.

Beyond knowledge sharing, the events also functioned as networking platforms. Many participants stayed after the sessions to continue discussions, exchange experiences and ideas, and connect not only with the presenters but also with each other. This showed that the BALTIPLAST training events helped build a growing community of practitioners interested in reducing plastic use and implementing sustainable solutions across Lithuania.
