Sustainable Christmas Days
20 December 2024
In the spirit of creating a greener future, we guided young minds in creating waste-free holiday decorations and cultivating sustainable practices through a series of workshops and interactive, hands-on sessions.
The primary school pupils made an excursion to the Faculty of Life Sciences, where they were given an introduction to sustainability and BALTIPLAST Project. This was followed by a scavenger hunt around the campus, an exhibition of DIY sustainable Christmas decoration ideas and other creative activities aimed to inspire young people to lead the way in sustainability by celebrating a holiday season filled with joy, creativity, and a commitment to the environment. The pupils got inspired to use recycled paper and orange peels to create decorations with low environmental impact and left the workshop with increased awareness of the hazards of plastic pollution on the marine environment. Through engaging activities, children developed a sustainable mindset by learning to gift experiences to family and friends instead of material items. They also embraced practices like sharing or exchanging old toys rather than discarding them.
In total 220 pupils joined this one-week-long event form from Grundschule Leuschnerstraße, Bergedorf! We hope to engage more local schools in our activities in the coming year and this way ensure the dissemination and transfer of our solutions.
Together, we can make this season both festive and green!
