Students and Staff Take Action for a Greener Future with BALTIPLAST
05 June 2025
As part of the EU Green Weeks, the BALTIPLAST project hosted during this week an inspiring event on campus that brought together students and university staff to explore practical solutions for tackling plastic pollution and promoting sustainability.
The event was centered around the theme “Young Minds for a Sustainable Future”, aiming to raise awareness about the environmental challenges caused by plastic waste and empower participants with knowledge and tools to make a difference.
One of the highlights of the event was an interactive scavenger hunt, which guided students across various stations throughout the university. Each stop presented hands-on tasks, educational facts, and thought-provoking challenges related to plastic pollution, the circular economy, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through this fun and educational experience, students discovered how their daily decisions—such as waste sorting, reducing single-use plastics, and choosing sustainable alternatives—can significantly impact the planet.
In parallel, university employees and students had the opportunity to visit the BALTIPLAST information stand, where they engaged in conversations with sustainability experts. The stand showcased innovative strategies for minimizing single-use plastic, shared insights into effective recycling practices, and offered practical tips for integrating sustainable habits into everyday life.
The event succeeded in sparking important conversations and encouraging responsible behavior among participants. By combining education with interaction, BALTIPLAST created a memorable experience that underscored the importance of individual action in addressing global environmental challenges.
This initiative was part of the BALTIPLAST project, which focuses on reducing plastic waste and supporting sustainable consumption patterns across the Baltic region. Its inclusion in the EU Green Weeks highlights the project’s role in advancing European environmental goals and fostering community-driven change.
As the event concluded, participants left not only with new knowledge but also with a renewed sense of motivation to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
