Technical details

As part of BALTIPLAST, the team behind Plastic-Free City (KuBuS e.V.) brought an engaging and educational activity to the Bergedorf district of Hamburg: an interactive escape game designed to raise awareness around single-use plastic consumption and inspire behavioural change.

The event took place on April 15 during the Bergedorfer Osterwoche (Easter Week) – a week of climate-focused activities for municipal staff, organized by the city’s Klimastabstelle (Climate Coordination Office). Alongside the escape game, the programme featured a variety of workshops covering topics such as sustainable mobility and workplace environmental action.

The plastic escape game, developed by KuBuS e.V., invited participants to solve a series of creative puzzles and challenges focused on the theme of plastic waste reduction. Participants from all departments of the Bergedorf Borough Office (Bezirksamt Bergedorf) took part, creating valuable cross-departmental exchange and sparking discussions about how plastic use can be reduced not only in professional contexts but also in everyday personal life.

Following the game, an open dialogue explored the potential for plastic-free practices in the workplace, highlighting the importance of simple, actionable changes and the role of institutional support in making them effective.

This interactive format showcases how BALTIPLAST and its partners are using innovative, hands-on approaches to empower individuals and institutions alike to make tangible progress in reducing single-use plastics. With playful formats like Plastic-free City’s escape game, sustainability becomes not only informative, but fun and memorable too.

A special thank you goes out to the organisers Maike Hesse and Carolin Rethorn from Bergedorf district, under the leadership of Michaela Graf-Krumnow!
