Conference: From Plastic to Clean Water – Circular Economy and Sustainable Environment Solutions

On 4 December 2025, the Environmental Center for Administration and Technology (ECAT), in collaboration with Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) and Kaunas City Municipality, organised the conference “From Plastic to Clean Water: Circular Economy and Sustainable Environment Solutions” in Kaunas.

The event brought together representatives from municipalities, environmental organisations and businesses from different cities to discuss key challenges and solutions related to plastic reduction and other environmental topics. The conference provided a platform for sharing knowledge, experiences and practical approaches to reducing the environmental impact of plastics.

A significant part of the programme was dedicated to presenting the BALTIPLAST project and its results. Participants were introduced to the project’s strategic, technical and soft solutions, demonstrating how plastic reduction can be addressed through integrated actions at different levels. The presentations showcased concrete results achieved during the project – from the development of plastic reduction plans and strategic guidelines to the testing of technical solutions and the implementation of practical measures in schools, workplaces and public events.

The topic of single-use plastics received particular attention. Speakers highlighted both the scale of the problem and the effectiveness of targeted interventions, sharing insights from pilot activities carried out in municipalities and institutions. Practical examples illustrated how relatively simple measures, combined with education and behavioural change, can lead to measurable reductions in plastic use.

Overall, the conference demonstrated that addressing plastic pollution requires a holistic approach, combining policy, technology and awareness-raising. By bringing together different sectors and showcasing real-life results, the event strengthened collaboration and inspired further action towards a more circular and sustainable environment.
