Technical details

On July 26th, the neighbourhood of Nettelnburg in Hamburg’s Bergedorf district came alive with music, conversation, and climate-conscious action during this year’s Quartiersfest. Organised by Carolin Rethorn, Energy-Efficient Neighborhood Redevelopment Manager for Bergedorf (Sanierungsmanagerin of the Energetisches Quartierskonzept Bergedorf-West), the festival brought together local residents, civil society groups, and sustainability practitioners to engage around one key question: How can we adapt our neighbourhood to climate challenges—together?

Our partner KuBuS e.V. was proud to be on site as part of our partnership with the Climate Coordination Office (Klimastabstelle) of the Bergedorf Municipality. Representing the BALTIPLAST project, we shared tools, insights, and hands-on activities focused on one of our central concerns: reducing plastic waste at the source.

At our booth, we introduced visitors to the Plastic Inventory Tool—an instrument developed in our project to help companies and municipalities identify and reduce their use of single-use plastics. We shared success stories from local businesses already involved and invited interested citizens to explore the new Household Inventory Guide, a simplified tool for individuals and families eager to assess and lower their own plastic footprints.

And because no community event is complete without fun for the little ones, our “Entchen-Angeln 2.0” game took a creative twist: instead of just catching rubber ducks, kids learned to spot the different types of plastic waste that often end up in our waters—and how we can all do our part to keep them out.

With summer temperatures rising, conversations also turned toward climate adaptation and resource conservation, echoing the broader goals of the Quartiersfest: empowering citizens to take action in their everyday lives. It was a great opportunity for KuBuS and the Municipality of Bergedorf to connect with locals, share knowledge, and gather feedback to improve our tools and outreach.

We left the festival inspired by the energy of the community and excited to continue working with Bergedorf—and beyond—to shape a more circular, climate-resilient future.
