Taking Care of Yourself is Not Selfishness, It’s Love: Saldus Municipality Hosts Well-Being Days
With the aim to promote mental well-being and to acquire participants for the Arts on Prescription pilot programme, Saldus Municipality recently organised Well-Being Days. This engaging event format took place in both Saldus and Broceni, inviting community members to immerse themselves in enriching discussions and creative activities that emphasize the importance of self-care.
The day kicked off with an insightful talk by Janita Anderson, co-author of the Positive Change Portal, who addressed the pressing issues of burnout and motivation—a topic that resonates with many in today’s fast-paced world. Her engaging presentation not only shed light on the symptoms and effects of burnout but also inspired attendees to prioritize their mental health and embrace positive change.
Following the discussion, participants had the chance to unleash their creativity under the guidance of Zanda Kudina. Zanda’s workshop allowed individuals to explore their artistic talents, reinforcing the idea that engaging in beautiful work can significantly enhance mental well-being. This hands-on experience underscored the transformative power of art in fostering emotional resilience and joy.
The Arts on Prescriptions in the Baltic Sea Region project is a vital effort by Saldus Municipality and further organsiations in Denmark, Germany, Poland, Latvia and Sweden to highlight mental health awareness. Recognizing that our emotional and physical well-being are interconnected, this initiative encourages collaboration among public, cultural, and health institutions to engage individuals facing emotional challenges through social and non-therapeutic arts activities.
These Well-Being Days are just one of the many activities designed to educate citizens about mental health and the various ways to improve it. The positive feedback and participation from the community demonstrate the value of such events, fostering a supportive environment where self-care is celebrated as an essential aspect of love — both for oneself and for others.
By creating spaces for open dialogue and creative expression, Saldus Municipality is paving the way for a healthier, happier community. If you’re interested in participating in future programmes or group lessons, don’t hesitate to contact one of our project partners in your region.
