Potential of prescribing art to Slovakia - a research publication by Michaela Kučová
Technical details

This publication presents the research of Michaela Kučová, a writer and cultural organizer from Bratislava, supported by the Slovak Arts Council. Her research aims to propose a pilot model for implementing an Arts on Prescription (AoP) programme in Slovakia, focusing on mental health promotion and prevention. Inspired by international case studies, she engaged with successful projects, including our Interreg BSR project Arts on Prescription in the Baltic Sea Region, to understand best practices, technical aspects, and evaluation methods.

Given the increasing mental health challenges in Slovakia—exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine—this research highlights the need for intersectoral collaboration between arts and healthcare. It underscores how cultural participation can enhance well-being, alleviate loneliness, and reduce healthcare costs. While Arts on Prescription is a well-established model in many countries, Slovakia currently lacks systematic integration of arts into health services.

Kučová’s work sets the foundation for bridging this gap, advocating for awareness-raising, competency-building, and financial support as crucial steps toward launching a pilot project in Slovakia.
